Who is Davey Chase?
The reason we all know ohana means family is because Chase made waves in the 2002 Disney animated film Lilo & Stitch, where she voiced the titular six-year-old Lilo, who befriends the alien Stitch. Four months later, she broke into the waves of the times (and many viewers’ nightmares) as The Ring’s antagonist Samara Morgan, playing quite the shaft.
Sadly, off-screen, her life was almost as traumatic as the role that created her fame.
In addition to some legal troubles (she was arrested in 2018 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance and released on bail two hours later), “behind the scenes, she has faced more than her share of hardship,” her boyfriend Hernandez wrote in a GoFundMe she created before her June 16 death. “After a difficult childhood and a painful rift with his family, Davey was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown LA.”
That changed when she met Hernandez.
“When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserves,” he explained, sharing their desire to raise enough money for a shared house. “Together, we found moments of happiness and hope.”
