In the six years since her then-husband (whose pseudonym James in the book is a nod to the ex-Henry Davies) abruptly announced he wanted a divorce at the beginning of the coronavirus lockdown, Baden has been able to overcome the devastating event and find a point of clarity that provides catharsis.
“It was very hard and I wanted more than anything in my life to have an intact family,” she told E! “It’s really amazing to say something like this because I loved my husband so much, but I would never have been in a place like this, so I’m glad it happened.”
And Burden says, “I would never have discovered myself as a writer again. I would never have taken charge of my life in the same way. I was financially independent, very confident in my character, and had this strength that I didn’t really know was there. So I’m grateful for that now.”
She emphasized that while it may be a cliché, the truth is that “sometimes everything has to fall apart in order to create something truly new.”
What’s new for Burden, among them, is that it ranks fourth on Amazon’s list of best books of the year so far. “It’s really humbling, inspiring and wonderful to hear that readers all over the world see themselves reflected in this book in some way,” she said. “And to be included on this list along with the other writers on this list is so great. I’m really honored.”
