Scholars blame Israel as genocide

The largest specialized organization of scholars studying genocide said on Monday that Israel is violating genocide in Gaza.

Israel, founded in the wake of the Holocaust, vehemently rejected the allegations after six million European Jews and others were killed. A resolution from the International Association of Genocide Scholars, which has around 500 members worldwide, including numerous Holocaust experts, said “Israel’s policies and actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of genocide,” and said it was a crime of humanity and crimes against war.

The resolution was supported by 86% of those who voted. The organization did not release details of the vote.

“People who are experts in genocide research can see what this situation is,” Melanie O’Brien, president of the University of Western Australia’s organization and professor of international law, told The Associated Press.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry called it “embarrassment of legal profession and all academic standards.” He said the resolution was “completely based on Hamas’ lies campaign.”
