Billy Ray Cyrus is grateful for his current chapter.
Because at one point, his upcoming album, The Hill, and his relationship with Elizabeth Hurley were in jeopardy.
The 64-year-old recently revealed that he suffered a near-fatal case of sepsis in 2024, from which he has since recovered, he told People in an interview published on June 10.
But the experience not only threatened his life, but also left him with a horrific side effect: temporary paralysis of his voice after his recovery.
But during that low period, Billy Ray found encouragement from an unusual figure within the vast Cyrus family. His grandson Bear (the 5-year-old son of Billy Ray and ex-wife Tish Cyrus’ youngest son Brayson Cyrus) was the one who helped him find his way forward.
“At a very crushing moment in my life, my little grandson Bear looked at me and said, ‘Try again,'” he recalled. “And until that moment, he had never spoken to me at all. I didn’t even know if he knew my name.”
He continued, “At that moment I thought, ‘He’s saying something.'” Is it about love? music? Somehow I had to try again with both. So I’m learning to try again. ”
