Don’t blame E! Thank you for taking me on a trip down memory lane at the Met Gala.
With just hours left until the 2026 event, which will be co-hosted by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Vogue’s Anna Wintour, some of the most iconic Met Gala looks of all time are being revisited, including the one worn by Taylor Swift on the steps of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In fact, during her Met Gala debut in May 2008, the “Bejeweled” singer took to the red carpet in a golden Badgley Mischka design that paid homage to that night’s theme, “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy,” lighting up the entire venue. (Taylor was 18 at the time, just meeting the minimum age requirement for the Met Gala.)
Two years later, in May 2010, Taylor returned to fashion’s biggest night wearing an ethereal Ralph Lauren dress, following her appearance at the Met Gala for “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity.”
A more edgy turn came in 2011, when Taylor wore a J. Mendel ensemble.
“We have an ongoing dialogue with Taylor Swift,” the brand’s CEO Jill Mendel told The Hollywood Reporter in October 2012. “It’s rare for a woman this young to have such great taste in what she wants to wear. I’m so excited to be a part of the process.”
Taylor collaborated with the fashion house again for the 2013 Met Gala’s “Punk: From Chaos to Couture” theme.
