Anthropic is asking investors to submit the AI company’s latest funding allocation within the next 48 hours, according to sources familiar with the matter. The round is expected to be worth about $50 billion, TechCrunch reported, and is estimated to close within two weeks, according to sources.
As previously reported, Anthropic is targeting a valuation of approximately $900 billion. But the final valuation could be much higher than that figure, given the surge in demand from investors for stakes in the company, the people said.
Antropic declined to comment.
Despite strong demand, some early backers are skipping this round, especially those who invested before 2024. Instead, those investors are waiting for the potential for cash during Anthropic’s planned IPO later this year.
The company is raising what could be its last private round before going public to fund its large-scale computing needs.
Anthropic announced this month that its annual sales exceeded $30 billion. But as we previously reported, the company’s run rate is now approaching $40 billion, according to people familiar with the company’s finances.
Anthropic raised its last round in February at a valuation of $380 billion. At $900 billion, the company’s valuation not only more than doubles, but also surpasses its biggest rival, OpenAI, which closed a record $122 billion round earlier this year at a post-money valuation of $852 billion.
