Brazil and Chelsea forward Estevao has been confirmed to miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury, putting his hopes of competing at the World Cup in doubt.
Chelsea caretaker manager Callum McFarlane did not comment on Estevao’s recovery period from the injury sustained in the first half of last week’s game against Manchester United.

MacFarlane said on Friday: “Estebao is unfortunately going to be out for a short period of time so he won’t be playing for us this season. It’s a real shame, especially for a young and talented player.”
“I think he’s very hopeful that he’ll be able to play in the World Cup, but I don’t know about that.”
The tournament will begin on June 11th, with the opening match between Brazil and Morocco taking place on June 13th at the New York/New Jersey Stadium.
Estevao, 19, was sent off after 16 minutes in the 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge and missed Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton.
Former coach Liam Rosenior revealed last week that the teenager was in tears after being sent off. Hamstring injuries can take weeks and, in the most severe cases, months to recover.
Estevao joined Chelsea from Palmeiras last year and has scored eight goals this season. He had scored five goals in his past six international appearances and was expected to be included in manager Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
His injury is the latest blow for Brazil, who are without Real Madrid winger Rodrygo due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right knee.
Chelsea face Leeds in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday. Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro both continue to recover from injuries and could compete for a spot.
