It’s been clear for some time that Beehiiv wants to be more than just a newsletter platform. The LA-based company announced a number of updates Thursday that further clarify its ambitions. New features include AI analytics for webinars and podcasts, metered paywalls, and paid trials.
Taken together, the announcements are a clear sign that the nearly five-year-old company aims to become an all-in-one hub for creators, reducing the hassle of juggling different tools and services to run a business. These additions position Beehiiv to compete with platforms that span newsletters, webinars, and podcasting, including Patreon, Substack, Zoom, Kit, and Ghost.
The start of a webinar is probably the biggest signal of where things are heading. Creators can now host live events for up to 10,000 people, complete with video, screen sharing, and chat, directly within Beehiiv. You can charge access fees in multiple currencies or use it as a free service to grow your audience. This feature opens new use cases for educational content, product demonstrations, and community building.

In terms of monetization, Beehiiv makes it easy to convert new readers into paying subscribers without quickly alienating them. A new paywall allows creators to decide whether to offer one post or 10 posts before a subscription prompt appears before asking for money. Authors can also control the reset period to occur daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or never.
Paid trials are another widely used tactic to attract new subscribers. Creators can control trial periods, pricing, and billing cycles. For example, $1 for 30 days, $5 per month for 3 months, etc.

Podcasts are exploding in popularity, and Beehiiv is betting that new tools will make it easier for creators to stand out in a crowded space. Last month, the platform added native podcast hosting, allowing creators to handle everything from hosting to distribution to monetization. The company has had good results so far. We report that 50% of existing users have migrated an existing podcast to the platform, and 25% of existing users have started an entirely new podcast.
The platform now has built-in AI analytics that allow creators to drill down into audience metrics, ask questions about data like episode performance and where listeners are from, and get answers without having to dig into a dashboard. Creators must opt in and can choose which AI tools they want to connect to, such as Claude or ChatGPT.

More features coming. The company told TechCrunch that it is working on adding video support for podcasts, expected to be released in the second quarter. Advertisements will also be available later this year.
Separately, Beehiiv touted its first quarter results as its best quarter in its history. The company says it has 400 million unique readers, more than 50,000 active users, and has sent 10 billion emails. The organization also announced annual recurring revenue (ARR) of more than $28 million this month.
