From the dweeb in Sixteen Candles to the more venerable nerds in The Breakfast Club and Weird Science, Hall had a niche in the world of John Hughes (he even briefly played Ringwald’s real-life boyfriend), so it was odd to see him as the hapless bully in Scissorhands.
But first, in 1985, at age 17, Hall became the youngest-ever ensemble member of Saturday Night Live, the same season RDJ appeared on the show, and Hall is also godfather to the Oscar winner’s son Indio.
Like RDJ, Hall only appeared on SNL for one season, but he steadily appeared in bit roles throughout the 1990s, including playing Microsoft founder Bill Gates in the controversial 1999 TV movie Pirates of Silicon Valley.
After being the only member of the Guts Pack to appear completely grown-up and unrecognizable when he reappeared as Gates, Hall starred in the American supernatural drama The Dead Zone, based on the novel by Stephen King, from 2002 to 2007. His major works include “The Dark Knight,” “Foxcatcher,” “Live by Night,” and “War Machine.” He also appeared as Principal Featherhead on Riverdale and had a recurring role on Riverdale. Goldberg and Bosch: A Legacy.
Next up is the June 2024 Netflix movie “Trigger Warning” starring Jessica Alba.
Of his former girlfriend Ringwald, Hall told Page Six in February 2020, “She’s a wonderful, wonderful woman. We’ve been friends ever since and have seen each other for years.”
Hall married his longtime girlfriend Lucia Oskerova in 2020, and their son was born in June 2023.
