Taylor Swift “Elizabeth Taylor” music video

The opening song of Taylor Swift’s “A Showgirl” references Ophelia, a character from William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” who meets a tragic fate.

According to the song’s lyrics, Taylor “could have drowned in depression” if she hadn’t been saved by true love.

“I heard you calling/With a megaphone,” Taylor sings. “Do you want to see me alone?”

The lyrics seem to be a nod to the beginning of Travis Kelce’s romance on the New Heights podcast, where he criticized Taylor for not meeting him on his Ellas tour.

“I swore allegiance to me, myself, and me,” the lyrics continue. “Just before you lit up my sky.”

Before meeting Travis, Taylor had just split from Matti Healy and declared herself an “independent girlie” in July 2023.

But sparks started flying that same month after Travis went to a concert in Kansas City.

Now, Taylor’s fiancée is also getting in on the Easter egg game, teasing the lyrics to “Ophelia’s Destiny” on Instagram in July. (Had some adventures this offseason,” he captioned a photo with Taylor, adding, “Kept it (100) up.”)

How does that relate to Taylor’s songs? Well, as the lyrics say, “You dug me out of the grave and saved my heart from Ophelia’s fate / Make it a hundred points.”
