Barcelona, who lost to last season’s finalists, are now unbeaten in 25 games following their recent victory over their fierce football rivals.

Barcelona defeated rivals Real Madrid with a commanding 6-2 lead in the Women’s Champions League quarter-final first leg, which was played across Spain.

Pere Romeu’s side, who have taken the football world by storm in recent years, took a two-goal lead within 13 minutes on Wednesday with goals from Eva Pahor and Esmie Burguts.

Linda Caicedo pulled one back for hosts Real Madrid at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium, but Irene Paredes quickly restored Barca’s two-goal lead.

Goals from Pahor and Vicky López in the second half, followed by another from Caicedo, gave Madrid a glimmer of hope. Alexia Putelas added a penalty late on, ensuring the Catalans a place in the semi-finals.

Barça are currently unbeaten in their last 25 games in all competitions, finishing second only to Arsenal last season.

The three-time winners have reached their fifth consecutive final and are on the verge of reaching their eighth consecutive semi-final as three-time Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bommati remains uninjured.

Instead, it was two-time champions Putera who gave Barça’s top scorer Payol the lead.

Patry Ghijaro’s deft effort put Pteras on the hook for Payol to slot home his fifth goal of the Champions League this season into the empty net.

López’s looping cross was met by Burguts for Barça’s second goal, and Madrid goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez forced the ball into the air, but the ball spilled over the line and defender Maele Lacler was unable to prevent it.

Pahor should have increased Barça’s lead, but he played the ball too close to Rodríguez on goal, and Rodríguez managed to drop the ball safely.

A few minutes later, Pau Quesada’s Madrid pulled one back when Caicedo broke behind the Barça defense and slotted home past goalkeeper Kata Col.

Madrid’s joy was short-lived as Paredes restored Barça’s advantage two minutes later with a header from a corner kick.

Polish striker Pajor scored the second goal just before the hour mark with a cool finish from 18-year-old midfielder Klara Serragiordi, who slotted it into the box.

López added a fifth goal with a low finish from a cut-back from Caroline Graham-Hansen as Barça humiliated their rivals.

The Catalans have won all four matches they have played against Real Madrid this season, scoring 16 goals to Madrid’s two.

The bad news for Madrid is that they have to face Barça again in Liga F at the weekend before next week’s second leg, which will be the first of three Clasicos in nine days.

The good news is that Barça appear to have no answer for Colombian attacker Caicedo. Caicedo curled into the top corner from the edge of the box to give the home side another point.

After Hansen was brought down, Pterasus sealed the rout with a late penalty, minimizing any chance of a Madrid comeback.

Madrid, who have never reached the semi-finals before, need just their second win against Barça to advance, with the Catalans having won 22 of their previous 23 matches.
