Hilary Duff details ‘devastating’ estrangement with parents and sister Hayley Duff
Hilary Duff hasn’t kept quiet about her family relationships.
The How I Met Your Father alum opened up about his complicated relationship with his parents, Bob and Susan Duff, in reference to the lyrics of the song “The Optimist” from his new album, Luck…or Something.
“I think it’s about being very vulnerable and open about what it’s like to be in a family where your parents aren’t together and you don’t have a relationship with your parents,” she said about the song’s lyrical inspiration on the March 9 episode of her podcast, On Purpose With Jay Shetty. “I’m shocked. It doesn’t matter how old I am. I want my parents to feel like they care about me, and a big part of my existence didn’t feel like that.”
Hilary added: “I don’t know if that’s true, but that’s how I feel.”
The 38-year-old, who has son Luca, 13, with ex-husband Mike Comrie and children Mae, 7 months, May, 4 months, and Townes, 22 months, with husband Matthew Koma, spoke at length about her relationship with her father, which became particularly strained after her parents’ divorce in 2008, and admitted that her efforts to mend the situation were fruitless.
