The way Miqueila Nogueira speaks is offensive.
The makeup influencer has responded to accusations that she adds a distinctive Boston accent to her content, admitting that the claims aren’t completely off base.
In a video posted to TikTok on March 2, she said, “Do I actually have an accent? Yes,” and “Am I exaggerating it in my videos? That too.”
But the Freetown, Mass., native pointed out that her father had a “terribly strong accent” and made it clear that her silent delivery was a tribute to her beloved hometown.
“I’m a masshole through and through,” she declared. “I’m probably going to die here.”
Later in the post, Mikayla, 27, said that, for better or worse, finding her voice had long been an interest in her life, but that it ultimately led her to discover an interest in the beauty industry, where she currently works.
“The reason I started wearing makeup was because I was being bullied for my voice, and I’m still being bullied for it,” she explained in the video. “Honestly, I was always told I looked and sounded like a man. It stopped people from wanting me and my confidence was shattered. Makeup became a safe space for me and I knew that was what I wanted to do with my life.”
