Qatar’s state-owned energy company halts LNG production following Iranian drone attack

Qatar Energy announced on Monday that it had halted production of liquefied natural gas due to Iranian attacks on its operating facilities.

QatarEnergy is the world’s largest LNG provider. About 20% of global LNG exports come from the Gulf, mainly Qatar, and are transported through the Strait of Hormuz, according to data from energy consultancy Kpler.

Earlier, Qatar’s Ministry of Defense announced that two Iranian-launched drones attacked an energy facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City and a water storage tank belonging to a power plant in Mesaieed. According to the Ministry of Defense, there were no casualties.

Share of US LNG exporters Cheniere and venture global They rose nearly 7% and more than 16%, respectively, in premarket trading.

Iran fired a missile at a US ally across the Gulf in retaliation for a major attack by the US and Israel that killed the Islamic Republic’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
