Actor Awards 2026 Nominees: Cynthia Erivo, Gwyneth Paltrow, More Cynics & Surprises
That was in 2006.
The introduction of the Nintendo Wii changed the gaming world forever, and Taylor Swift was a relative unknown when she released her debut album, but the first season of Heroes and the March of the Penguins documentaries captivated audiences. Additionally, Twitter debuted and Facebook finally entered the market beyond college campuses. And backing it all up was Daniel Powter’s iconic one-hit wonder “Bad Day.”
And just like the app we now know as X (Twitter, we’ll never forget), in 2006, the acting awards still went by another name: the SAG Awards.
As for which stars were honored by members of the Screen Actors Guild, the selection was wide-ranging, with no film winning more than one award at the January ceremony.
The Best Actor award went to Philip Seymour Hoffman and Reese Witherspoon (Phillip for Capote, Reese for Walk the Line), while the Supporting Role award went to Paul Giamatti for The Cinderella Man and Rachel Weisz for The Constant Gardener.
Meanwhile, Crash, which would go on to win Best Picture at that year’s Academy Awards, was an ensemble film with a cast that included Sandra Bullock, Thandiwe Newton, Matt Dillon, Don Cheadle, and Brendan Fraser.
