Prolific Indian opener Abhishek Sharma was hospitalized with a stomach problem ahead of the T20 World Cup group match against Namibia, according to Indian media and sources.
Sharma, the world’s top-ranked T20I batsman, is likely to miss India’s second match of the tournament against Namibia on Thursday.

“Abhishek was admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official told India’s PTI news agency.
“Some tests are being carried out to confirm the problem. It is not yet clear whether he will be able to be discharged from hospital today. However, the match against Namibia looks doubtful for now.”
The explosive left-hander will be key to India’s chances of defending their title in the 20-team tournament, but his availability for the international match against Pakistan remains uncertain.
The 25-year-old missed practice in the opening match in Mumbai with stomach problems and was admitted to a hospital in New Delhi on Tuesday, according to AFP.
India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Dochate acknowledged the concerns in Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, saying the batsman “still has some stomach issues.”
“We hope he will be able to play in the game within the next few days.”
Abhishek was a disappointment during India’s win over the US, but performed well heading into the tournament.
India will face their South Asian arch-rivals in a blockbuster in Sri Lanka after Pakistan reversed its decision to boycott the match citing geopolitical tensions.
