You’ve been misspelling Oprah Winfrey for years now.
But it’s okay, because so is she.
The multimedia mogul was born Opa Gail Winfrey, and her first name comes from the Bible’s Book of Ruth, where Opa is the sister-in-law of the titular convert.
But as Winfrey explained to the stunned host of “Baby, This Is Kiki Palmer,” “No one knew how to spell that because I was a kid.”
So even though her birthday certificate said Opa, people got it wrong so often that the future daytime talk show queen just chose Oprah, and when she came of age, a total surprise awaited her.
“I didn’t know until I was probably 20 or so,” the 72-year-old admitted, “and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s not really my name.’
Keki Palmer quipped, “Wow, we have a lot in common because I’m actually an ‘eeky.'”
No, “I’m just being silly,” she added with a laugh, but the We Love Boosters actress was born Lauren Kiana Palmer.
Of course Winfrey knew that. But if you were today’s age when you learned the names of any of these stars, add them to the long list of celebrities who go by different names.
