Zara was up for Best Dance-Pop Recording at the show hosted by Trevor Noah. Lady Gaga ultimately won the award, which was announced during the pre-show, with Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Tate McRae and Pink Panthers rounding out the category.
And for the “Look What You’ve Done” singer, being celebrated among his peers is nothing short of a dream come true. That dream dates back to when he was little and was giving a Grammy Award speech in front of a mirror.
“That’s why I’m calm,” Zara said, “because I’m very happy to be here. And if it doesn’t happen this year, it will happen next year. And if not next year, then the year after.”
“I love making music and I love singing, so this is really what I love to do,” she continued. “And all of these amazing and appealing additions are just the icing on the cake.”
Of her younger self, Zara predicted: “She would be so proud. I would tell her that everything is meant to happen. And now I’m feeling really grounded and I’m at a stage where I can really embrace everything and have a good time.”
