Stars may be looking back on 2016, but 2006 will forever be an iconic year.
Specifically, the 2006 Grammy Awards. That year’s ceremony is unforgettable given its shocking start. For the opening performance, Madonna took to the stage with Gorillaz and De La Soul for a high-energy mashup of “Feel Good Inc.” and “Hang Up.”
The officiant-less ceremony was packed with memorable moments, including Mariah Carey’s mesmerizing performance of “We Belong Together.” ‘Songbird Supreme’ were feeling every emotion as they took home three golden gramophones, including the award for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
But I can’t believe anyone had a better night than U2. The Irish rock band, whose members include Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr., won all five categories for which they were nominated, including Album of the Year for “How to Defuse an Atomic Bomb.” The group certainly captivated the audience with their explosive performance of their hit song “Vertigo.”
Celebrities such as Paula Abdul, Fergie and Kanye West were in attendance, and the ceremony was filled with peak mid-’80s fashion.
