Sam said that each episode of Traitors begins with its own visual roadmap, setting the tone for Cumming’s look.
“There’s usually a mood board for each episode. Each episode has its own vibe, mood board, inspiration. We start with a 3-5 page mood board, but that’s just the inspiration. Then we create one thing that we have available or need to create to look like that mood board. There are different iterations of the mood board, and then one page that we order or create. It’s all over the place, but it’s useful for us.
There were keywords like an attractive James Bond villain, but Scottish. Scottish apparel has always been influential. It’s always a combination of charming, Scottish and villainous. These days, Mission inspires each costume.
We meet with our producers to learn about our missions, draw inspiration from each mission, and develop our looks from there. There are staples. Tartan is always involved. We’re currently adding a lot of gems to the theatrical element so you can really see it on camera. We jewel much of our work by hand. ”
