The Todoist app now lets you add tasks to your to-do list by talking to the AI

You might not need an AI smart ring to manage your to-dos. Doist, the company behind Todoist, the popular to-do list app that works on multiple devices, is releasing Todoist Ramble, a new AI-powered “voice to task” feature. This feature allows you to describe tasks using natural language.

As the name suggests, Ramble can turn your meandering, unstructured speech into organized tasks. The app also captures the other details you mentioned, such as project deadlines, priorities, duration, and assignees.

People often think of things to do while on the go, but it can be difficult to pull out your phone to write down notes or create reminders. Todoist Ramble requires you to take out your phone, but you don’t have to type anything. Instead, tap the Rumble icon and start talking. The app updates task information in real time and reacts to edits and changes as you speak.

For example, you can say things like “Actually, Thursday please,” or “That’s it,” and give the AI further instructions as you speak, the company says.

Ramble is built on large-scale language models (LLMs) as part of a suite of AI capabilities the company calls Todoist Assist, and runs on Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model via Vertex AI for real-time speech understanding. Once the audio is streamed to the backend, the model will transcribe your speech and identify the task, date, and other details you mentioned to generate the task.

According to the company Doist, no audio is stored or used for AI training, and the app is SOC2 Type II certified.

The AI capabilities are similar to those emerging in a variety of hardware AI devices that transcribe audio and turn it into notes, reminders, to-dos, or insights. For example, Amazon’s wearable device Bee uses AI to take notes and create recommended to-dos. Meanwhile, other devices, such as Plaud’s, can take meeting notes and summarize key points.

There is also growing interest in AI-powered smart rings, such as startup Sandbar’s Stream ring and Pebble’s upcoming Index 01 ring. Both allow you to quickly press the ring (which you wear on your index finger) to add something to your to-do list or create a note in a companion mobile app.

Prior to launch, Ramble was beta tested with all Todoist Experimental users, a group of approximately 150,000 active testers who are early adopters of new features. Within the first three weeks of testing, approximately 76,000 testers completed approximately 290,000 Ramble sessions on desktop and mobile. The feature then entered public beta testing in November.

Doist claims that task creation success rates have also improved from around 40% in October this year to around 62% by December, spurring upgrades. New users on entry-level plans were upgrading at about five times the rate before using Ramble.

Todoist Ramble is available today for all users on iOS, Android, desktop, and web, and supports 38 languages. Users on the Beginner plan also have access to this feature, but with a limited number of sessions per month. Pro and Business paid plans offer unlimited sessions. For easy access, this feature is available on iOS through a shortcut on the home screen or lock screen, and on Android through app shortcuts, widgets, and quick settings tiles.
