Paul Thomas Anderson’s films are all about dysfunctional relationships, self-centered artists, wild dreams, and troubled people who need drastic measures to break free.
So it’s no wonder that home is a haven for the 55-year-old.
The writer and director of The One Battle After Another, who has been nominated in nine categories for the 2026 Golden Globe Awards on January 11, leading the way in history, has four children with longtime partner Maya Rudolph. In case you’re wondering why she was his date to last month’s Gotham Awards ceremony and more.
Because while they’ve collaborated here and there, and while the Saturday Night Live alum stole some scenes in Anderson’s Inherent Vice and Licorice Pizza, they’re the polar opposite of Hollywood couples.
In fact, Anderson told the Los Angeles Times in 2018 that she was “pretty nervous” when she heard they were being called celebrity royalty. Still, he laughed out loud when he saw a photo taken by a paparazzi he didn’t know was taken on his way to the doctor’s appointment, saying, “It’s scary… but funny.”
“I remember seeing that,” he quipped, “and thinking, ‘Wow. There’s no way we can look like that.'”
