Rob Reiner’s friends Billy Crystal, Larry David and others pay heartbreaking tributes after his death
Rob Reiner’s inner circle is paying tribute.
On December 14, two days after the director of When Harry Met Sally and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner were found murdered in their Los Angeles home, close friends of the couple, including Billy Crystal, gathered to pay a joint tribute.
In addition to the actor, the Dec. 16 message was signed by more than a dozen members of the film industry, including Martin Short, Larry David, Albert Brooks, Marc Shaiman, Barry Levinson and Billy’s wife, Janice Crystal.
“It remains an unforgettable thrill to go to the movies in a darkened theater full of strangers and have a shared experience, laugh, cry, scream in fear, and watch the intense drama unfold,” their statement to The Associated Press begins. “Tell us the stories that our viewers want from us.”
“By absorbing everything he learned from his father Karl (Reiner) and mentor Norman Lear, Rob Reiner became not only a great comedic actor, but a master storyteller,” the letter continued. “No other director has had the range he has. From comedies to dramas to mockumentaries to documentaries, he was always at the top. He captivated audiences. Audiences believed in him. Audiences lined up to see his films.”
