“Then something happened when I was in Venice,” he explained. “I was there with my sister, my mom, and my dad, and during that applause, I saw them standing behind me, and I saw my agent, who I’ve known for 10 years, and I looked around and realized that I was exactly where I was meant to be all my life. And every day since I made this movie, I feel a kind of great peace in this industry that I’m in the right place, I’m meant to be here.”
Director Guillermo also praised Jacob’s powerful performance, especially regarding the actor’s intense transformation process.
“It took him about 10 hours every day,” Guillermo exclusively told E! News Oct. 6, “And about 42 cosmetics and prosthetics. And he’s going to have to work.”
That said, it was Jacob’s impressive performance that ultimately brought the iconic monster to life.
“I told him, ‘Look, it’s like when a priest is dressed, there are layers of robes and a ceremonial guard. You have to think of this as your ceremonial guard. You’re summoning a creature,'” Guillermo added. “The result was both heartbreaking and beautiful. It was a truly naked performance, emotionally bordering on heartbreakingly innocent.”
