The unlikely pairing’s chemistry during 2019’s A Star is Born and the subsequent press tour left fans unaware that the actor-director was dating Irina Shayk and that the pop star was engaged to Christian Carano at the time.
Still, it’s clear that the co-stars have a close bond, with Gaga revealing that she and Bradley had an “instant connection” “from the moment we met.”
Of course, that closeness was on full display in 2019, when the two took to the Oscars stage hand in hand to perform their Best Original Song-winning number, “Shallow,” just days after Gaga called off their engagement.
However, the House of Gucci star quickly denied romance rumors after her performance, telling Jimmy Kimmel, “Yes, people saw love. That’s what we wanted you to see.”
Bradley, who ended his romance with Irina later that year, did not address the speculation until November 2021, telling The Hollywood Reporter that he had been acting during the Oscars.
“It’s like they fell in love in that scene in the movie,” he explained. “It’s an explosive moment that happens to them on stage in front of thousands of people…It would have been very strange if we were both sitting in chairs facing the audience.”
