6. As per tradition, two new actors were brought in to play Clark and Ellen’s enraged children. Juliette Lewis took over the role of Audrey and told Rolling Stone: “The fact that the Griswolds have a new kid every time was talked about. The agents couldn’t explain why it was acceptable, but it was just accepted. Of course, I grew up watching the Vacation movies starring the legendary Anthony Michael Hall. This was a very exciting opportunity, and even at 15 years old I knew it was important.”
7. Just before production began, Lewis discovered that her then-boyfriend was cheating on her. “On my first trip to Colorado, my boyfriend and I were caught talking on the phone with another girl in a hotel room,” she revealed to Rolling Stone. “I didn’t even tell him I heard him, I just asked him who he was talking to. He lied, so I said, ‘Oh, by the way. You’re leaving tomorrow morning.’ I booked his flight, he left, and then I went to shoot.”
8. Future Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki became the series’ new Rusty after recording himself on tape and sending it in.
“They took me to Los Angeles, and this was the first time I was here,” he recalled. “I read the book with Chevy and Jeremiah, and that was enough for me. Even if they gave me walking papers and sent me home on the next plane, it would still be a dream come true. Chevy told me in that room that I got the role.”
