Liverpool’s record signing Alexander Isak scored his first English Premier League goal for the Reds as the high-pressure football champions returned to their dire form with a much-needed 2-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday.
Liverpool have endured their worst season in over 70 years, losing nine of their last 12 games, and manager Arne Slott has taken the drastic step of removing Mohamed Salah from his starting XI for the first time in the Premier League.

Florian Wirths, who replaced Salah, looked sharp but destroyed Liverpool’s best chance of the first half with a modest shot from close range, allowing goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to save.
Looking lacking in form and fitness, Isak missed two chances before the break and drew a fine reaction stop from Areola midway through the first half.
However, the Swedish striker almost gave up as he converted a pull-back on Kodi Gakpo with an hour left to give the Reds a narrow lead.
Liverpool’s cause was aided by Lucas Paqueta, who strangely had his side twice canceled for objections within 60 seconds with less than 10 minutes played, but Gakpo added his second in the 92nd minute to seal the three points.
Liverpool’s second win in eight league games moved them to eighth place with 21 points from 13 games, while West Ham are now 17th with 11 points, level with Leeds United in 18th.

West Ham appeared to have turned a corner after players and fans paid tribute to former captain, coach and manager Billy Bonds, who died on Sunday aged 79, after coming into the game on a back-to-back home winning streak.
But in the end, Liverpool’s quality was too much and, crucially for Slott, he managed to keep his fifth clean sheet of the season after scoring 10 goals in the final three games.
Isak could have put Liverpool ahead within four minutes, but the effects of his long-term move from Newcastle United were still evident as his shot went wide.
While the home fans believed Liverpool were coming for the win, West Ham looked even sharper after the break with Paqueta firing in an audacious half-volley from just 30 yards out.
But in the 60th minute, Isak was free in the box as Liverpool reused possession from a throw-in and the striker calmly slotted wide-footed into the bottom corner.
Paqueta’s red in the 83rd minute made West Ham’s task even more difficult, before Gakpo scored to send the home fans on their way to being sent off.
