New information has emerged surrounding the death of Jimmy Kimmel’s bandleader.
Less than a week after his death at the age of 59, Cleto Escobedo III’s immediate cause of death was revealed to be cardiogenic shock, a condition in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood through the body, according to a death certificate obtained by TMZ on Nov. 14.
Additionally, the document cites vasodilatory shock, or dilation of blood vessels, and disseminated intravascular coagulation (blood clots that block blood flow to organs) as underlying causes.
And blood-related symptoms weren’t the only health problems listed on the certificate. Alcoholic cirrhosis, a progressive liver disorder caused by excessive and prolonged alcohol consumption, was also found to be a contributing factor to his death, as were sepsis, graft-versus-host disease, immunosuppression, chronic kidney disease, and pneumonia, according to TMZ.
Cleto’s tragic death was first announced on Nov. 11, when Jimmy shared a heartbreaking tribute to the musician who hosted “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” He has been the band leader since his debut on the show in 2003.
