Dwayne Johnson says he’s ‘really struggling’ with divorce from ex-wife Dany Garcia
Divorce wasn’t in the plan for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
But everything changed in 2007 when he and Danny Garcia broke up after 16 years of marriage. And it was difficult for the Smashing Machines actor to understand not only that his relationship would end, but also how the family relationship would change for his daughter Simone, who is now 24 years old.
“As some of you may know, when you get married, you’re entering into a long-term agreement, but it doesn’t always work out that way,” Dwayne said on the Nov. 6 podcast, The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter. “And just like I was shaken, so are you. And then we had a baby, and what kind of father was I going to be?”
As he navigated these changes, he began to struggle with his mental health.
“At that time, I was feeling really bad,” he recalls. “That was another bout of depression.”
And difficulties in his personal life have led the Fast Five star, who married Lauren Hashian in 2019 and welcomed daughters Jasmine, 9, and Tiana, 6, to seek happier roles, including family films like The Game Plan and The Tooth Fairy.
“I was trying to figure myself out, and that was the only thing I really wanted to do artistically,” he explained. “I didn’t want something that was gut-wrenching and challenging. I wanted something that had a happy ending, and that’s what it became.”
