Unplug McDreamy
In 2015, after Rhimes cryptically confessed on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore that he killed a Shondaverse character because he didn’t like them, speculation swirled that the corpse was Dempsey’s character Derek.
When pressed for diagnosis, Dempsey told EW that Rhimes “loves to be provocative, and that’s okay with who she is.” He called her an “incredibly productive, wonderful woman,” adding, “I think she knows how to deal with the media and what to say to get the reaction she’s looking for.”
According to How to Save a Life, tensions were high between Dempsey, Rhimes, and other cast members, “who had all sorts of PTSD,” according to former executive producer James D. Parriott. But Mr. Parriott said that by that time Dempsey had “just finished the show.”
Mr. Pompeo “would be upset that he wasn’t working as much,” said former executive producer Janine Renshaw, according to Mr. Rice’s book. “She was very passionate about making things fair.”
All suspected wounds have been healed, and Dempsey is welcomed back into comatose Meredith’s dreams in season 17.
