The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 on Friday, sending the World Series into a decisive Game 7 and keeping alive their hopes of winning back-to-back Major League Baseball (MLB) championships for the first time in 25 years.
A Dodgers team with its back against the wall and facing elimination for the first time this postseason had no room for error, but starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto took six solid innings while Mookie Betts and Will Smith provided the offense.

Toronto made a strange play in the 9th inning when it looked like they might tie the game with an inside home run, but the ball hit the bottom of the outfield fence and Dodgers outfielder Justin Dean immediately raised his hands to signal the game was dead.
After a video review, the Dodgers determined that this was essentially a double, leaving Toronto with runners on second and third base with no outs.
Ernie Clement then had an infield hit, Andres Jimenez hit to front left, and then Quique Hernandez hit a ball to second base that turned into a double play, putting Addison Berger out and ending the game.
The Dodgers’ victory postponed, for at least a day, parties across Canada where fans of MLB’s only franchise were eager to celebrate the Blue Jays’ first World Series win in 32 years.

Dodgers’ season ends with Game 6
As they had earlier in the season, the Dodgers entered the World Series as the overwhelming favorites to win, but few expected the Blue Jays to mount a major challenge, and even fewer said they would win it.
With their season at stake, Los Angeles took the lead in the third inning with Smith’s scoring double, and Betts’ timely two-run homer put Los Angeles ahead 3-0.
Berger led off with a double in the bottom of the third inning, then scored on George Springer’s single, bringing the Blue Jays within two runs.
The Dodgers’ starting rotation has been the team’s strength this postseason, but the Blue Jays pulled away from it en route to a 3-2 lead in the World Series, and Yamamoto once again took matters into his own hands.
The Japanese ace, who had gem-like complete-game wins in his past two starts, struck out six batters and allowed one run on five hits in six innings before the Dodgers switched to the bullpen, which had been their weakness all season.
The Blue Jays threatened to put runners on first and second base with one out in the 8th inning, but Aki Sasaki retired Bo Bichette and Dalton Bacho grounded out to end the inning, but they were close again in the 9th inning.
Play was briefly halted in the sixth inning as a spectator climbed the outfield wall and stormed onto the field holding an American flag, but was removed and taken away by security shortly after.
Game 7 will be played Saturday in Toronto.
