“The ideal hair care routine for growth focuses on both the scalp and hair,” Dr. Mamina tells E! news. She recommends “starting with a gentle cleanser to keep your scalp balanced, followed by a nourishing conditioner or mask to strengthen and moisturize.” Hair growth begins at the scalp, but “caring for the length and ends helps keep your hair strong enough to actually reach its full length.”
Then, “use a scalp serum or treatment that contains clinically-backed growth-supporting ingredients (similar to those found in Obagi’s BioStim Scalp Serum), which stimulate hair follicles, improve circulation, and help create a foundation for healthier growth.”
To protect your hair, she also suggests minimizing heat damage, being gentle when detangling, and protecting your hair from UV rays and environmental stressors. “Over time, staying consistent with this type of routine will make the biggest difference in promoting longer, stronger, healthier hair,” says Dr. Mamina.
What about haircuts? Dr. Mamina says, “Regular trims can help prevent breakage-causing split ends from traveling along the shaft and make your hair look and feel healthier. Think of it as maintenance to maintain length, rather than something to promote growth.”
