Most people believed that Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, or David Lynch would direct the film, but Sonnenfield, a cinematographer with no directing experience, was given the stressful job of filming the film over 25 weeks. “I lost 13 pounds in the first 10 weeks alone,” he told Empire. “And the tension was really great.”
Then, three weeks into production, he passed out on set during a conversation about the budget. “I was standing behind a chair and I started to feel this incredible pressure in my chest, like someone was blowing up a balloon inside me. Before I realized what was happening, I felt so dizzy that I tried to sit down and lo and behold, I passed out,” she explained.
11. Will his insecurities persist? Rubin playfully changed the name on the back of the director’s chair to a new name every time a reporter came to the set. This often included directors who had been in talks to direct the film at some point.
12. The sequel’s title, “Addams Family Values,” is taken directly from a controversial 1992 speech by then vice presidential candidate Dan Quayle, in which he blamed the Los Angeles riots on a breakdown in “family values.”
