The software company is encouraging people to upgrade their PCs with a slate of artificial intelligence features to test with Windows 11, Windows 10’s successor.
People who are part of both the Windows Insider Program and the Try AI Experiments Copilot Labs group have access to the updated Copilot Assistant app in Windows 11. This app lets you use desktop and web applications to perform certain tasks on locally stored files, such as resizing photos.

Microsoft is making the technology available to corporate employees who build AI agents, and consumers with premium subscriptions can try a computer-based agent called Copilot Actions. The software company is currently planning a version for Windows 11.
Copilot actions are turned off by default. Once enabled, Microsoft says it will run in a contained environment with its own desktop. Users can monitor the software’s operation step by step and take over at any time, but they are also free to move around and do other tasks on their PC while the work is done in the background.
“Agents may make mistakes or face challenges with complex interfaces, so it is critical that we test this experience in the wild in order to apply learnings to make it more competent and streamlined,” Mehdi wrote in a blog post.

Microsoft wants to proceed carefully with the rollout of Copilot Action. While in preview, this feature only works with common folders like Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and Photos, and you must approve the use of your data elsewhere on your computer.
Those enrolled in the Windows Insider Program will be among the first to test out actions in Windows 11 File Explorer powered by technology from Singapore startup Manus. Right-click the file and click the Create Website with Manus option.
Windows Insiders can also ask Copilot to analyze what’s on their screen through chat messages. Until now, people could only take advantage of this Copilot Vision feature by speaking out loud.
Finally, Microsoft plans to offer a redesigned shortcut to Copilot just to the right of the (Start) button. New widgets include buttons to activate Copilot Vision or voice AI conversations with one click. Alternatively, you can summon your assistant by saying, “Hello, co-pilot.”
