Dominant India registered a seven-wicket victory against West Indies in the final Test at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, clinching a commanding 2-0 series victory.

Chasing 121 points for victory against West Indies’ subdued attack, the home team achieved their target with KL Rahul scoring 58 not out and B Sai Sudarsan scoring 39 in the morning session of the final day.

“It’s a real honour, and I’m just getting used to it,” said home captain Shubman Gill, who recorded his first series win since taking over as Test skipper earlier this year.

“It is a great honor to manage all the players and lead this team.”

India had won the series opener in Ahmedabad within three days and had piled up points at 518-5 in the second match when they sat in the box and declared their first innings.

West Indies folded for 248 in the first innings and were made to follow.

The visitors displayed much improved batting in the second innings, scoring 390 with hundreds from John Campbell and Shai Hope, extending the contest to the final day.

India, who resumed at 63 for 1, needed just an hour to complete their chase, but West Indies managed to pick up a few wickets thanks to two great catches.

Tour captain Roston Chase put Sudarsan away with a diving low catch from Hope.

Gill, 13, hit a six and a four before missing a ball from Rose. Justin Greaves caught the swirling ball and ran from midwicket to take a great catch.

That was the end of the drama as Rahul reached the winning boundary and sealed the victory for India.

Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who took eight wickets in the match, was named the man of the match, while teammate Ravindra Jadeja was named the player of the tournament.

West Indies captain Chase said the team will take some positives from the defeat.

“The positive for us in this game was that Campbell and Hope played well and scored hundreds of points,” he added.

“It’s been a long time since we got 100 overs, which was also good. It was great for us to take the game into the fifth day.”

India’s tour of Australia begins with the first One-Day International (ODI) in Perth on October 19.
