YouTube announced Wednesday that its multilingual audio feature was officially launched after two years of piloting. Millions of YouTubers now add dubbing to their videos in a variety of languages, reaching a wider global audience. The development is expected to occur over the next few weeks.

This feature was originally released as a pilot in 2023. This is available to a limited number of creators, including Mrbeast, Mark Rober and chef Jamie Oliver. Creators had to work with third-party dubbing services until YouTube introduced an AI-powered auto-dubbing tool that utilized Google’s Gemini technology to recreate creators’ tone and emotion.

YouTube has reported that several testers have been successful with this feature since its launch. On average, those who uploaded multilingual audio tracks saw over 25% of their viewing time from the video’s non-primary language scenery. For example, Jamie Oliver’s channel tripled the view after using multilingual audio tracks.

Additionally, the company is testing multilingual thumbnails in a selection group of creators. Since June, creators have been able to customize thumbnails to display text in other languages to accommodate international audiences. Localized thumbnails are designed to include text that matches the audience’s preferred language.
