A 13-year-old boy died in the Salamanca province during a celebration of the victory over Argentina.

A 13-year-old boy was killed and another child injured when a fountain partially collapsed during a huge celebration to celebrate a second World Cup final in western Spain, regional emergency services said.
The accident occurred shortly after midnight on Monday in Ciudad Rodrigo, a walled medieval city of about 12,000 people in the province of Salamanca, near the border with Portugal.

Hundreds of residents were gathered at the Albor Gordo fountain in the city center when the top of the monument broke off, hitting several people, emergency services said.
In a statement, Ciudad Rodrigo City Hall expressed its condolences to the victims.
“The entire city feels this loss and sympathizes with the grief of the minor’s friends and family… What was supposed to be a celebration of the Spanish national team’s World Cup victory turned into a tragedy,” the newspaper said.
The fountain is understood to have collapsed under the weight of scores of people who climbed into it to celebrate Spain’s first World Cup win since 2010.
“Around 12:30 a.m. local time, we received a call that a fountain had collapsed and a number of people were lying on the ground,” the emergency service said in a post on X, adding that the injured included another young man who appeared to be in critical condition with a broken leg.
Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 to win the 2026 edition of FIFA’s featured global event. The event was held by co-hosts the United States at New Jersey Stadium in New York.
The game was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation time and went into overtime, with Ferran Torres scoring the only goal of the game.
