Andrew was taken into custody amid ongoing controversy over his relationship with a late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. (He denied all allegations of wrongdoing.)
“On behalf of our sister, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, we would like to thank the British Thames Valley Police for their work in investigating and arresting Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.” The family of Virginia, who passed away in April, continued. “He was never a prince. For survivors all over the world, Virginia did this for you.”
Police confirmed on February 19 that Andrew, who along with Epstein had accused Giuffre of sexual abuse, was detained on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
