Basking Ridge, N.J. (AP) – President Donald Trump said he believes Russia-Ukraine War If all NATO countries cease to purchase oil from Russia and place a 50% to 100% tariff for the purchase of Russian oil, it will end.

Trump posted to his social media site that NATO’s commitment to winning the war was “less than 100%” and that the purchase of Russian oil by some members of the alliance was “shocking.” As if talking to NATO members, he said: “It greatly weakens your negotiation position and negotiation power against Russia.”

Since 2023, NATO member Turkey has been the third largest buyer of Russian oil after China and India. According to Research Center on Energy and Clean Air. Other members of the 32 state alliance involved in the purchase of Russian oil include Hungary and Slovakia.

Trump’s post arrived after several recent Russian drones flying to Poland. This is the escalation movement that occurred when Russia was in NATO outer space. Poland shot down the drone, but Trump played saying the seriousness of the incident and the motivations of Russia “It could have been a mistake.”

Trump as a candidate promised to end the war soon, but he had not yet hit the necessary pressure points to end the violence and was seen as reluctant to stand up to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Congress is now trying to get the US president to support strengthening the bill sanctions after it was hosted by Trump last month. Trump in his post said NATO’s ban on Russian oil and tariffs on China “will be a huge help in ending this deadly but ridiculous war.”

The president said NATO members should withdraw 50% to 100% tariffs on China if the war launched in Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine ends.

“China has strong control over Russia and even has a grip,” he posted, and strong tariffs “break that grip.”

The US President has already placed a 25% import tax on goods from India for the purchase of Russian energy products.

In his post, Trump said the war’s responsibility would fall to his predecessors, Democrat Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky. He did not include Putin, who launched an invasion in that list Putin.

Trump’s post is based on a call on Friday with the finance minister of Seven Group, an industrialized democracy forum. During the call, US trade representative Jamieson Greer and Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent called for them to have a “uniform front” to cut off “financing the proceeds of Putin’s war machinery,” according to Greer’s office.
