Cadence Design Systems — The chip design company’s stock soared more than 4% after Cadence Design reported second-quarter earnings (excluding items) of $2.11 per share, beating LSEG’s consensus estimate of $2.05 per share. Sales were $1.58 billion, in line with expectations. Rambus — The memory interface chip maker rose slightly after second-quarter earnings of 77 cents per adjusted share and revenue of $207 million beat expectations. Analysts surveyed by LSEG had expected revenue of $198 million and earnings of 72 cents per share. Universal Health Services — Hospitals and medical services provider fell more than 4% after lowering its full-year outlook. The company now expects adjusted earnings to be in the range of $22.28 to $23.65 per share for the year ending December, down from its previous forecast of $22.64 to $24.52 per share. Welltower — Shares of the senior housing real estate investment trust rose 4%. Welltower raised its full-year guidance to normalize funds from operations in the range of $6.36 to $6.44 per share, beating the FactSet consensus estimate of $6.30. What Happened — The bank formerly known as Lending Club saw its stock price rise 4%. Full-year earnings were expected to range from $1.80 to $1.90 per share, beating the FactSet consensus of $1.74 per share. The company expects annual loan originations to be between $12.2 billion and $12.6 billion. F5 — Multicloud security company rose nearly 2%. Third-quarter results beat Street expectations. F5 reported adjusted earnings of $4.73 per share on revenue of $865 million, while the LSEG consensus was calling for $4 per share and revenue of $388 million. Cincinnati Financial — The company suffered a loss of about 4% after reporting disappointing second-quarter results. Operating income per share was $1.43, below the FactSet consensus estimate of $1.84 per share. Net premiums were $2.64 billion, lower than analysts’ expectations of $2.66 billion. Nucor — The steelmaker fell 1% despite second-quarter earnings and sales that beat expectations. The stock price has already risen more than 50% since the beginning of the year. Principal Financial Group — Shares fell 3% even though the retirement services company reported operating profit excluding items of $2.42 per share, beating the $2.34 per share estimate of analysts surveyed by FactSet.
