Former New York mayor, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, was hospitalized Saturday evening with a broken spine and additional injuries following a car accident in New Hampshire, according to a statement from his team.
Giuliani, 81, was in a car attacked from behind the highway “at highway,” said his security officer, Michael Ragusa.
Giuliani was driving on a Ford Bronco, which was rented by his spokesman Ted Goodman, New Hampshire State Police said in a statement.
Troopers witnessed a crash, and both vehicles hit the median highway, causing them to “severely damaged,” state police said. Goodman and the 19-year-old suffered “life-threatening injuries” and were taken to hospital for treatment, the agency added.
State police said they are investigating the crash and no charges have been filed.
Giuliani, a former campaign lawyer for President Donald Trump, was taken to a nearby trauma center where he was diagnosed with a broken thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and cont bones, as well as injuries to the left arm and lower limb, the statement said.
“He’s been injured, but he’s well and he’s very well,” Ragusa said.
State police said troopers investigated domestic violence reports on the southbound Interstate 93 Expressway before 10pm ET and observed crashes that occurred in the northbound lanes. Troopers and firefighters quickly crossed and provided help.
Giuliani’s security chief, Ragusa, said initially he pulled out the car to help a woman who said Giuliani’s car was a victim of domestic violence.
New Hampshire State Police declined to comment on whether Giuliani had contacted the agency regarding accounting of a domestic violence incident.
Ragusa said car accidents were “not targeted attacks.”
“We ask everyone to respect Mayor Giuliani’s privacy and recovery and refrain from spreading unfounded conspiracy theories,” he wrote to X.
Giuliani’s son Andrew said, “I am honored to have a father that I can call the toughest sob I’ve ever seen!” According to X’s post.
Andrew Giuliani is the executive director of the White House Task Force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The crash follows a rocky year for a former Republican presidential candidate who was called “American mayor” in light of his leadership in New York after the September 11 attacks of 2001.
Giuliani later became Trump’s personal lawyer and a supporter of the 2020 election voices of Trump’s fraud allegations won by Democrat Joe Biden. Trump and his supporters lost dozens of lawsuits alleging fraud, and numerous recounts, reviews and audits of election results showed no signs of serious fraud or error.
Two former Georgia election workers later won a $148 million delinquent ruling against Giuliani. As they were trying to gather the verdict, a former federal prosecutor was found in a courtroom light empty and faced trial this winter over the ownership of some of his assets. He ultimately allowed him to maintain his home and various belongings in exchange for unspecified compensation and a promise to stop the illness of previous electoral workers.
