“These days I can’t escape thinking about the future, but I try to stay in the moment,” she said. “I’m so worried about my daughters losing their father. They’re going through this with all the pressures that young girls have to go through. I want to do everything I can to give them the tools they need. They’re going to be changed because of this. I know that.”
Rebecca and Eric, 53, separated in 2017, but their relationship has remained strong through this difficult time, including advocating for health insurance to secure a nurse to help care for them at home and taking on their own shifts.
But Rebecca has been “going above and beyond” to make sure her family gets the support they need, and knows that taking a little time to process everything they’ve been through will “become more than heartbreaking.”
“I am doing everything I can to help my children, Eric, myself, and all of us get through this, understanding that death is part of the life cycle,” she explained. “In this case, we are very unlucky in so many ways. But we are also lucky in that we know that time is the most precious thing and we can use it wisely.”
