Police in Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria, have announced that the driver of the car carrying British boxer Anthony Joshua in a fatal crash in Nigeria has been charged with reckless and dangerous driving.
On Monday, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was driving the boxer and two of his friends, Latif Ayodele and Shina Gami, on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway when the Lexus SUV they were riding in crashed into a parked truck.

“The defendant was granted bail for a total of 5 million naira (approximately 348,000 yen) with two sureties. Once he met the bail conditions, he was remanded pending,” police spokesperson Olusei Babasey told AFP on Friday.
Kayode has been in police custody since being discharged from hospital on Thursday.
Ayodele and Gami died at the scene, while Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries, Nigeria Police and state officials said.
The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency in Ogun state, where the accident occurred, told AFP earlier this week that a preliminary investigation showed the vehicle was traveling at excessive speed and had a burst tire before the crash.
After being discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, Joshua and his mother paid their respects at a funeral home where the bodies of their friends were being prepared for repatriation.
Government officials suggested to AFP on Thursday that the victims’ remains may have been repatriated to Britain. Joshua’s whereabouts are unknown.
