Yamal gave the hosts the lead in the 28th minute after Fermín López took the ball from Pape Gueye, slipped a pass down the right flank and the 18-year-old scored low inside the left post.
Nine minutes later, he doubled his lead with a stunning solo run, controlling a long ball on the right, cutting inside past Sergi Cardona and Álvaro Moreiro, and curling an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
Gueye pulled one back from close range in the 49th minute, but Villarreal missed a chance to equalize and Yamal paid the price in the 69th minute with another counter-attack to complete his hat-trick.
Substitute Robert Lewandowski added a fourth goal in stoppage time when he connected with Jules Kounde’s low cross from the right.
Ramal said he was happy for the win, both personally and for the team.
The player told reporters after the match, “I think Villarreal is third place (in the standings) and is a really good team. I’m very happy with the win and my goal.”
Asked about his stunning second goal, he said: “Once you have the ball you decide where to go, so I waited for the defender to go one way and I went the other.”
