Lizzo talks about dark times.
The “About Dumb Time” singer reflected on her deteriorating mental health amid a lawsuit filed by former dancers and how it affected her health and fitness journey.
“I started losing weight in the fall of 2023,” Lizzo, 37, wrote in a Nov. 23 Substack post. “I was deeply depressed. I had been the subject of a vicious scandal and it felt like the whole world was against me. I became deeply suicidal.”
“I isolated all my loved ones. During the scandal, I couldn’t trust anyone,” she continued. “A former close colleague or friend (with whom I had a pleasant or neutral relationship) came out and started making things up about me. God knows why. Should he have kicked me while I was down?”
As a result of the backlash she received during the lawsuit (she revealed that she was fired in 2024), she went through a period of “extreme isolation” and anger, and was changing her eating habits, which she typically describes as unhealthy. That is, one day she decided to actively take a different approach.
