The UK has seen a significant increase in anti-Semitism incidents over the past decade, with 2023 and 2024 being charted as a record year of anti-Semitic sentiment episodes.
A statement released in X by Community Security Trust (CST), a charity protecting British Jews from terrorism and anti-Semitism, said the organization was “devastated” by news of a deadly attack outside the Manchester synagogue.
“What happened at Yom Kipur, the sacred day of the Jewish year, only highlights the shocking impact it has on the Jewish community,” the statement read.
“We want to pay tribute to the security guards at the synagogue and the police officers who responded quickly to the attack.”
Reflecting the commitment of the Greater Manchester Police (GMP), CST said it is working closely with the GMP, as well as synagogues across the country to protect the Jewish community.
“This type of attack is why we implement such extensive security across the Jewish community and we would like to thank all CST volunteers, security guards and police officers who play a role in protecting our community from terrorism and anti-Semitism,” CST said.
Data collected by CST revealed that more than 3,500 episodes of anti-Semitic sentiment occurred in 2024, and more than 4,000 people were recorded in 2023.
Between January and July 2025, the charity recorded over 1,500 anti-Semitism incidents. This is the second highest total reported in the first six months of the year.
Since Hamas’ attacks on the Israeli war in southern Israel and Gaza on October 7, 2023, it has continued to increase in anti-Semitist attacks.
