Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang speaks to CNBC on May 5, 2026.

Beijing — Nvidia The chipmaker confirmed to CNBC that CEO Jensen Huang is scheduled to join US President Donald Trump’s visit to China this week.

A person familiar with the situation told CNBC that after Mr. Trump announced that Mr. Hwang was absent from the delegation, he called an Nvidia executive and asked him to attend.

Officials said Huang flew to Alaska to board Air Force One.

President Trump is expected to bring more than a dozen top U.S. officials to Beijing this week and meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday and Friday.

“Mr. Jensen is attending the summit at the invitation of President Trump in support of the goals of the United States and his administration,” a spokesperson for the semiconductor giant said in a statement. Nvidia referenced the same comment when asked about Huang’s participation in the Alaska trip, but did not say why.

The White House did not respond to requests for comment.

NVIDIA’s cutting-edge chips, widely used to train AI models, have faced tougher U.S. restrictions on sales in China over the past four years. The company announced in February that the U.S. government-approved version of the chip was not yet allowed to be imported into China.

“I still believe we’re still a long way from reaching an agreement on export controls…It’s positive that he’s there and part of the presidential delegation, and it’s definitely important to him and to the president,” former U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez told Squawk Box Asia.
