A beloved member of the 30 Rock cast has passed away.
Griz Chapman, best known for his role on the sitcom Bodyguard Griz, died on May 22, his agent Saide A. Brown confirmed to TMZ. He was 52 years old.
Hours after Chapman’s death, Chapman’s cousin, Harlem Globetrotter Donte “Hammer” Harrison, shed light on Chapman’s health issues at the time of his death.
“After many years of illness and dialysis, he passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 22, 2026,” Harrison wrote on Instagram, along with a throwback photo of the two of them. “I am grateful that we had time to reunite two months before he passed away.”
Before his death, Chapman spoke candidly about his battle with kidney disease, which led him to undergo a kidney transplant in 2010. That same year, he became a spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation.
Harrison also touched on Chapman’s enduring legacy.
“My cousin Griz Chapman went through some tough battles in his life, but he fought with strength and dignity to the end,” Harrison wrote. “A lot of people knew him as the sitcom star on ’30 Rock,’ but we all knew the man behind the screen: a good heart, good energy, and someone who made an impact on this life.”
