White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said Thursday that federal workers who were furloughed during the government shutdown are expected to have their backlogs deposited into their bank accounts early next week.

“There’s been a real aggressive effort to get people to get their checks as quickly as possible,” Hassett told reporters a day after President Donald Trump signed a short-term funding bill that would allow the government to reopen in 43 days.

As hundreds of thousands of federal workers head back to their offices, Hassett said, “I think we’ll probably see payments coming out early next week.”

The timing of payments can be affected by the agency the employee works for.

Under federal law, government employees who are furloughed during a government shutdown must be paid for the time they were furloughed at their standard rate “as early as possible, regardless of their scheduled payday.”

NBC News reported, citing a senior administration official, that the White House has “urged” government agencies to “quickly and accurately” get back payments to workers.

The official said “super checks” for salaries from October 1 to November 1 will be mailed out to General Services Administration and Office of Personnel Management employees starting Saturday, according to NBC.

Super checks will be deposited into the bank accounts of employees at the Department of Energy, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs on Sunday, the official said.

On Monday, employees from the departments of Education, Interior and Transportation, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency, NSA, Social Security Administration and several other agencies, will undergo super checks.

Employees from the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Homeland Security, Justice, Labor, Treasury and Small Business Administration are scheduled to receive their super checks on Wednesday.

Senate staffers received the first paycheck they missed during the government shutdown on Friday and will receive their second paycheck on Monday, a person familiar with the situation told CNBC.

House staffers received notice on Tuesday that they should receive the money owed. If your account is with a smaller bank, you should receive it on Wednesday.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said earlier this week that air traffic controllers will receive 70% of their unpaid salaries this week, with the remainder due next week.

“It was really nice to have some of our furloughed employees come out today and see lots of hugs and smiles,” Hassett said Thursday.
