Mondo duplantis defeated the 14th Paul Vault World Record in his third attempt to win the world title for the third time with a 6.3m (20 feet, 8 inches) jump.

The gold medal was already safe for the American-born Swedes on Monday, when the bar rose above the record height of 6.29m that was managed in Budapest last month.

He failed the narrowest margin in his first two attempts, but robbed the enchanting crowd at the National Stadium, sliding on the third time, and the bar gave a slight wobble before settling down.

The stadium exploded and was attacked by his delighted rival after the 25-year-old raced to celebrate with his family in the crowd.

The scene at the same arena four years ago was in stark contrast to when Dupantis won the first title of two Tokyo Public Olympic titles for Covid Pandemic.

Seven of the 12 vaulters completed 5.90m in an unusually strong competition, but the contest quickly returned to Duplantis and the Greek Emmaniur Karalis.

Caralis, the bronze medalist behind Duplantis at the Parisiolmím, secured a silver medal in a 6.00m jump, but failed at 6.10m, 6.15m and 6.20m.

Duplantis sailed at 6.10m and 6.15m, then gave the crowds and the world of athletics what they wanted in the fourth world record jump of the season.
